Same experience today...
By Steve

Clip to ScrapBook
Had the same problem with seventh grade today. I subbed today and yesterday for seventh grade math. The same teacher had a different sub the previous two days as well. The previous sub's notes weren't encouraging - she
had to call the Dean of Students in twice, several students mentioned prominently by name for bad behavior, general bad behavior by the rest, etc.

It continued with me yesterday...several behavior reports filled out, at one point I sent several out into the hall for a few minutes since they did not have their assignments done so that I could check assignments with the rest of the class.

One of the SPED teachers came by the room and saw the kids I'd sent to the hall goofing around inappropriately - when she got after them, they mouthed off, so she got the Dean of Students, who gave them a chewing as well (at least one parent is getting contacted out of that one, probably more). Even that didn't settle them down.

Today, more or less the same thing. One class was trying to do their assignment before I'd even hardly started the lesson, then argued with me that they understood it(then promptly started asking questions because they didn't). The real problem class from yesterday was back in form - I ended up taking a quiz away from the whole class because the entire class was bouncing off the walls while they were taking it, even after I threatened to take away the quizzes and recommend zeroes for all of them (there were so many talking that I couldn't single out who was talking - it would be easier to point out who wasn't). The warning didn't phase them, so I did what I said - took it away and left an explanation and recommendation to the teacher.

It didn't help that it's been warm and the windows of the room were sealed shut, either, so it got uncomfortably hot in the afternoon - it just wound them up more.

It made for the roughest two days I've had in awhile...and I normally *like* middle school assignments.
