I love the Social Studies Alive Series. It is very interactive and the kids "tour" the United States. Here is the link to their webpage

Beth Newingham has a lot of information on her webpage about it. Even though she teaches 3rd grade, she uses the 4th grade text.

I really like how interactive it is with the kids, how it is information that they can relate to and you can adapt it to your needs. The tests relate right to the material and I use a scrapbook to evaluate too.
