recruiting for Fort Worth, TX

I noticed heavy recruiting efforts by the Fort Worth school district in my part of the state (So Cal) to convince new and (soon-to-be) laid-off teachers to come teach there. There appears to be a huge shortage of qualified teachers. The district promises big bonuses for those who take the bait. They also claim that the cost of living is much lower than here. Anyone here on the PT board from FW who could list pros and cons? I was not laid off, but I am curious for those who were.
