I have one idea that was really nice and helpful for me and the students when I subbed. The teacher said for me to introduce myself to the class and go over what our schedule was for the day. This was very helpful. She also included me in on both the individual rewards, good slips, and classroom rewards, marbles. The students respect you a lot more if they know what is expected of them and you know the reward system. Whenever the students were getting a bit roudy, I told them that I was not going to pass out any good slips and they could lose some marbles if they kept up the bad behavior. Another great idea is how the teacher gets the student's attention, i.e. clapping, 1,2,3...eyes on me, 10,9,8...heads up straight. I hope that these ideas help!
