touch it once By happymom2

I too try to "touch it once"--when something comes in my mail, or comes across my desk, I try to deal with it right then. I also do not go home till the mess of the day on my desk is dealt with. I have a crate on my desk| with hanging files--one for each day of the week, one I call "hold" with papers I may need for a staff meeting or something in the near future, and I also stick any files from my cabinets that are pertinent for a unit of study--environments, february, etc. I have an "IN" box where students turn in all papers (it is across the room so they are not constantly directed to my desk and I can | | feel free to ignore this basket until I am ready, but I am sure to do that at least at the end of each day), an "OUT" box on my desk where I drop things I need to pass out at the end of the day. I have a "Tuesday" basket for the things that go home in our weekly heavy plastic school folder (all grades do this on this day). I sort papers to check and clip them, and then allow myself a day or 2 to correct those. I used to have a folder called "To Check" but I found I was better off keeping papers to check in a visible spot. I have a binder called "Meetings" with tabs for staff meetings, leadership team, and child study. I have a binder called "Gradebook" with tabs for each subject, and I don't just have work records in there, but also any handouts or documents related to that subject that I need to refer to.
Hope this is helpful.
