Phonetically spell
By rdgspeclst

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach my kids (online and in the classroom) to spell phonetically from the first day of school. But, I think that stems from me being a Reading Specialist. It's really easy for them when they know some simple phonics. Usually, it is the vowels...the SOUNDS of the vowels that trouble most inadaquate spellers, no matter what age or grade. I do a simple long and short vowel lesson (takes about 15 minutes) at the beginning of each year. You'd be AMAZED at how few kids actually know the sounds of the long and short vowels. It changes everything for them.
