good days and bad days
By Sharon

Clip to ScrapBook
What makes a great day? Updated seating charts are must! I have actually had some teachers call me at home the night before and go over everything with me then. She answered all my questions (who are the kids I can trust?
who should I keep a special eye on?) She photocopied the lesson plan (which was huge) and the directions for me in case I have problems. I can simply hand the bad student the paper and send him on his way with his books. She told me about the one teacher the students cannot stand across the hall and pre arranged with her that I will send the bad kids to her. She also told her class
that if they disrespect me, they are showing the upmost disrespect for her and will be in a world of trouble.

What makes a really bad day? I came in today and I was told I would be teaching math the first part of the day and reading the second half (middle school). the math went great, but I had major problems in reading. I had no lesson plans, no seating chart, no role sheets. Qucikly, I grabbed a reading comprehension book and assigned a few pages. The kids were out of control. I wrote up 16 referrals in two hours. finally comes sixth hour. Because I am in reading room, subbing for a reading teacher, i naturally assumed this was just another reading class. Wrong!! This is an elective class on career assesment. Not only did I have the previous problems mentioned above, but now there is not a single material in the classroom! I find this out fifteen minutes after the class started. Kids started cursing at me, telling me they were not in reading class and simply will not do reading work! The class was so out of control that administration and security had to come down and baby sit! It would be nice is if somebody in the school would tell me what subject I am teaching!
