Personally, I don't like to tell kids they can't read ahead. I want them to read as much as they can. If they finish the book ahead of the others, could you do a reader's workshop type of activity with them? Could they select a book on their own and write you letters about what they're reading? If they got involved in a second book, they may not be as inclined to give away endings.
