The problem seemed to worsen, so I decided that parent contact was my next step. I did not want to be dealing with a problem that was not mine, so I had the kids take a half-sheet of paper and write a note home to their parents about THEIR problem. We brainstormed as a class how the letter could be worded.... Now, all I do is give fair warning in the beginning of a lesson and if a student blurts out, I just look at him/her and point to the half-sheet stack. They know what to do.... This takes only a moment on my part, but the whole recess on their part to write their letter. So far, so good... letters are coming back with parent signatures and many more students who are working a lot harder at demonstrating self-control ;) LindaR :s)
