I have used ideas from the Broward County Schools website. I love the intervention ideas on the FCRR website (Florida Center for Reading Research)
On the downside I had a student that transferred into my class last year from Florida. She had started school at 6 and had repeated 1st grade for accademic reasons so she was 10 years old in my second grade class. Her difference in size and maturity was alarming. She was almost as tall as I was. To top it off I was able to have her tested for a learning disability and she had one. She never should have repeated first grade. I am so afraid that she will be a dropout at 16 with only a 6th grade education. I don't think I'll ever forget her. She returned to Florida last summer.
