i was raised in an affluent area in NJ (bergen county) and went was schooled in a high performing school district. i was assigned to student teach 3rd grade in newark (an urban poor area where most of the class will be very| much below grade level, tons of behavior problems., you name it i saw it!) and i was very nervous as well however it was the most amazing experience ever YOU WILL LEARN ALOT in regards to differntiated instruction and classroom management. plus if its an abbot district they get alot of supplies and funding and training in best practices. you will have your days that you want to run | |
out. but its worth it the EXPEREINCE IS WORTH IT TRUST ME! im in my first year and i know i could never teach in an urban area but get the experience i would never have traded it for any other position i loved it, i loved the kids, the expereince was rewarding and worth it. ITS ONLY A FEW MONTHS YOU'RE NOT BOUND DO IT! districts like it too :-)
