We'll wait
By Alicia G

Clip to ScrapBook
My oldest dd had a reaction (extreme nausea) from the first shot, which we sort of blindly got her (ie. without any research) because it was "the right thing to do" according to all my friends and colleagues. They were getting
it for their daughters, so I marched right up to the front of the line and we got our oldest a shot (at age 13).

She got the shot on Wednesday and was sick Friday and then got well. Not a huge deal to miss a day of school, but when my kids have a reaction to something like a shot or medicine, I don't worry so much about what I can see (nausea that lasts a day) but what
I can't see (any underlying damage that wasn't apparent).

Anyway, we did some websurfing and they're not sure how long the shot's effects are. And, there are other side effects, etc.

So, we are not getting the other two shots for her at this time. And, we're not getting my next dd vaccinated (she turns 12 next month) and of course we're waiting until my 7 yo daughter gets older.

We're not totally giving up on the shot; we're just waiting.

And, while it is no guarantee, we're openly discussing STDs of all types with the kids. "Eww, gross" is their reaction.

When the article came out a month or so ago about 1/4 of all teen girls carrying these diseases, I read that with my kids.
