Worried....

My daughter decided to join Americorp after graduating college(not an education major). She has been placed in an inner city school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The school is bad and she is the only white person in the school, while she was a little nervous I was the one who was scared. This is nothing like the environment she grew up in but, she has fallen in love with the kids and is so passionate about helping them. She cannot even believe the difference in the quality of education offered. She is being placed in an inner city school next year in Washington, D.C. These kids need good teachers-they are victims of their environment. Embrace the experience instead of fearing it. Learn from it and use it to become a great teacher!
