disorganization
By Cathy-Dee

Clip to ScrapBook
Some people are just more pack-rats that others. I have subbed in classrooms (long term - 4 months) and basically I just moved a few things around so that I wouldn't inadvertently through out things that belonged to the
regular classroom teacher. IT IS HER ROOM! Yes I know the argument raised that the room is the school district's, etc., However in most cases much of the supplies, decorations, resources are personal belongings of the teacher thus it really is their room or at least their belongings.

I was fortunate to be able to talk with the teacher I was replacing and I asked her about things.

She actually told me to feel free to go through her things and clean up. She said she had a hard time throwing away things (you'll never know when you might need it syndrome), so she welcomed me doing it for her.

I'm sure the teacher wouldn't have a problem (nor the administration) if you took a few boxes and put some of the things such as the boxes of cookies, candy, etc., you mentioned and placed them in a corner of the room. This would tidy up the area and make it more workable for you. I would only do this if you will be somewhat long-term - 4 weeks or longer in the position. If you are only going to be there for a week or two then it really shouldn't be an issue.
