Read write think
By seaturtles

Clip to ScrapBook
I've taught 7th and 8th grade reading for 7 years. After you look at the curriculum/standards and decide what concept you want to teach go to http://www.readwritethink.org. There are lots of wonderful lessons at the site.
For example, if you decide to teach connotation/denotation there is a lesson that uses car names to demonstrate the concept. My students loved the lesson and so did I.

Also, here are a couple short stories that I use. You won't be able to finish in 20 mins., but you should be able to do a great pre=reding activity with any of them. An anticipation guide is a good place to
start.
The Lottery -- Shirley Jackson
Charles -- Shirley Jackson
The Most Dangerous Game -- Richard Connell

Another good website is http://www.maxteaching.com. Click on materials at the top. The reading/language arts section has some good anticipation guides.

Good Luck!
