I have taught both grades and I enjoy 1st a lot more. I love the growth that you see throughout the year and teaching beginning reading. Also, in our state (CA) the 2nd graders take the state test. I just feel that it adds a lot more pressure and I am not able to teach as thematically as I can in 1st. 2nd becomes more focused on test prep.
