    Cleaning

I would be very cautious about making any big changes. At my last school, a sub moved or threw away a stack of "old papers" because she thought they had been there too long. When the teacher came back, the sub couldn't find the papers. They were things required by the district for the children's portfolios. The folders had not come in, so the teacher had the materials on her desk until the they arrived and the papers could be filed. The principal did not allow the sub to come back.

My room is mine even when you are subbing in it. My room is not always as neat and clean as I would like, but sometimes I like to leave before 7:00 at night. I have to prioritize and cleaning just doesn't always make the top of the list. However, I know where everything is, and if you move my stuff around, you will not be invited to sub in my classroom again. I know a lot of teachers who feel the same way.

I greatly appreciate the hard work that substitute teachers do, and I try to make sure I let them know that. However, I am responsible for everything about my children and my classroom. That means that I make the decisions.
