Daily Fool? Daily Fan? Ideas are welcome!

THANKS so for all your help! I'm starting to come around!

Yes, I do teach fourth ~ and, additionally, we're departmentalized. This means a limited ninety minutes (not counting time out for specials)!

:o

To
commit to the Daily Five, I'll have to split my time very carefully!
To get it it all in, I think I would have to give . . .

20 minutes (or so) for read/think aloud and housekeeping tasks

30 minutes instruction/practice on a new skill/strategy
40 minutes for Daily Five
I'm thinking that this could be done ~ if we transition quickly enough.

:)

Now
my next challenge is in determining what gets assigned a (small) grade ~ new skills work or Daily Five work? And if they keep their Daily Five work in a journal ~ how can I take these home to look over and assign a grade and daily feedback? (I have 60 students.)

I've always wanted to do journals, but I've never gotten over this hump!

:o

As I'm writing this, I'm thinking I would just have to grade ~ gently ~ their practice of a new skill/strategy. Then the journals could be discussed during the Daily Five, along with the homework and the new skills/strategies work . . . But would there be enough time?

I would really appreciate your thoughts on this! Do you have any ideas?

Thanks for all of your help! I've sought this kind of input out at school ~ but it seems that I can't find a way to stir up necessary concern for this.

:)

I sincerely appreciate your time and thoughts!
