I do Writer's workshop at a different time

We follow Lucy also, but I do writing workshop at a different time. The daily five is independent practice. I incorporate Making Meaning and other comprehension mini lessons into the whole group call backs, but the kids are responsible to read, write, or word work on their own.

I have been calling groups back 3 days a week and conferring individually 2 days. When the kids are engaged it feels like you have a greater amount of time with each child/group. I conferred today and it is so enlightening to talk to each child.
