Filler
By Suzanne

Clip to ScrapBook
I have stopped teaching high school and I shy away from all spec ed classes unless I have been there before and know what to expect. I hate the often very rude surprises that await me.

As far as filler for elementary school kids, I only use a video for rainy day lunch and recess. I rarely use extra worksheets. In my opinion they get too many worksheets every day. I bring in an assortment of books from my collection. I sometimes offer a choice of 1) drawing, 2) reading a book of their own, or 3) listening to me read a book. Usually half the class ends up listening to me read.

The kids enjoy the choices. If they are respectful, I allow them the choice to read my books to themselves. They love the chance to peruse a new book.
