As far as I know the schools I work in don't have that kind of policy about now using computers, but I have my own policy.

I refuse to allow any student use a computer in my classes for any reason. I don't care if they have a report due the next day. I will not allow myself to be held responsible for a computer that I don't know how to use. I have learned everything on IBM computers and I have never touched a mac, much less know how fix a problem with one.

If a lesson tells me to allow students to use computers, I still refuse. I will do something else and then leave a note explaining why and what I had the kids do instead.
