I like the idea of writing a note. That way, she knows that you care about her feelings and don't want her to be uncomfortable in your classroom. On the other hand, it keeps you out of a potentially sticky situation with her parents. They may just not be ready to let go of their little girl; however, there's always the possibility that there's some deeper belief that's got them holding out. You never know, so I would distance yourself from it.
