has some EXCELLENT lessons!!! Last year, I started my unit with "I Can't Write A Poem". This is a non-rhyming list poem. I thought that it was an excellent way for the class to write a class poem, without knowing that they
were actually writing a poem. It came out great.

"Lunch for my Teacher" is another fun list poem the kids can write. I introduced rhyming and rhythm with this one. The kids really enjoyed writing the grossest things you could think of! I typed them up for each kid and they illustrated the border with the gross foods and a picture of my reaction. It was great fun!

After
the month of learning how to write lots of different kinds of poems (couplets, similes, shape, etc.), the kids wrote poems in many of the forms they learned for their moms. Our Mother's Day Tea is in mid-may and this was a gift for each mom. The kids read them aloud to their mom and as you might guess, there was not a dry eye in the house!
