Our Summer School is only for those students who have IEPs or who the CST feels need to attend. Teachers don't really have any input, and the students are not required to attend - they are "invited." them sometime! The teachers| need to have Special Ed certification, except for me (or someone in my position). I was hired last year to teach the Preschoolers who would be entering Kdg and was the only one with an Early Childhood Certification - as required by NJ. I had been trying for a couple of years to get "in" and when the Assistant Principal informed me that I was hired, she told me I got it by default...nice...made | | me feel great! (We think that part of her job description is to make us feel bad -she is very good at it...) For some reason, Summer School in our 1-school district is an enviable job - I heard that a lot more people were interested for this Summer. Gee - I hope I proved myself and get re-hired on my merits, not by default! It is a great job - 1/2 day, 6 weeks, local trips every Friday, good pay. Last year it was 3 hours with the klids, but we were paid for 4 hours. A few people would arrive at 9 then zip out at 12, someone complained and now we will only be paid for 3 hours, which means that those of us who came early/stayed late to prep will not be paid. That hour times 5 days times 6 weeks adds up to a big pay cut! I will probably also work at my DD's Day Care Center.
