Dinosaurs
By teach8060

Clip to ScrapBook
In my first couple years of Second Grade, my Project Fair theme was dinosaurs. The kids made dioramas, plaster of paris fossils using shells, clay dinos with mini fact sheets (They researched on the computer.), 3-D posters,
and portfolios such as the PP mentioned. Dinosaurs are a theme in our current Science series. A favorite is to make up a dinosaur based on personal qualities or interests - such as "Guitarosaurus" for a guitar lover, "Rainbowatops", "Pokemonadon"...etc. and illustrate. When I taught preschool, we just used the child's name ("Bobbyasaurus") and made black handprints on white paper. We
then made a headline, such as "Dinosaur Fossils Discovered in Whoville", covered a bulletin board with newspaper (You could cover a trifold?) and hung the handprints. I think I did something similar with the plaster fossils. In preschool, we also ate salad and meatballs (herbivores and carnivores - we were always cooking!!!) but that won't work for a Science Fair! Fun to do in class, tho!
Have you tried www.enchantedlearning.com? It is a "pay-to-use" site, but there are lots of free things, too (worksheets, facts, etc.).
Good luck! I teach 4th now...no dinosaurs:(
