refusing assignments
By Shawn

Clip to ScrapBook
I have to make two points.

First of all, your students and your classroom are your responsibility. If you know you can't control them, it is your *duty* to turn down the assignment. Somebody could get hurt or the classroom
could get destroyed.

Secondly, turning down assignments must be done with tact. I'm not sure how these automated systems work, but with a sub caller, you just gotta remember that the other person is just trying to do her job. Don't surprise her. Be cooperative, but at the same time make suggestions about your preferences. She doesn't want to have a whole debate at 6 a.m. every

morning. She'll come around to your way of thinking. Sometimes you'll have obnoxious classes, but that is only fair.

Taking the first assignment the sub caller offers is like taking the first price you get from a used car salesman!
