"Refusing assignments" By Steve

I wish I could give you a pat answer on this, but I can't. It depends on a lot of things - what assignment you're refusing, how often you refuse, why you refuse, the sub caller's/district's attitude about refusals, etc.As | two examples, the only reasons I've ever turned down an assignment were because I either already had a position that day at another district or I was ill, and never had any issues. Right now I'm only subbing for one district, and I'm on good terms with the sub caller, so on the few occasions I haven't been able to work she's been very understanding. We also have two subs that will | | refuse to do certain types of assignments - one won't do science, the other won't do math - period. Since the district is short of subs, and the sub caller is pretty laid back, this isn't a problem (or with me - it means more work for me!).Conversely, my wife used to sub for a district that had a sub caller that could be downright vindictive if you turned down a job - it might be a couple of weeks before you got called again if you turned her down, regardless of the reason. If you've had a good track record thus far and you have a reasonably understanding district, I don't think there would be a problem. Sorry I can't give you a more definite answer, but it's a really subjective kind of situation.
