Memory Key
By Socks

Clip to ScrapBook
We teach our kids to make a memory key on scratch paper (graph paper in your case). We have them make a chart with +, -, x, and /. Under each operation the kids write down words that would tell them to do that operation.
For example, under + they would write: add, sum, more, etc.

They also drew an analog clock with the clock numbers on the inside and 5, 10, 15, etc. on the outside to remind them to count by fives. They also draw an hour hand and minute hand and label them.

I had my guys draw a 100 chart. Some of them only needed 1-10 and 10-100. They could fill in the blanks when they
needed them.

They could draw some fractions to help them remember like 1/2, 1/3, 1/4.

They could put definitions on if they struggled with that too.

Basically whatever they put on their memory key should only take them about five minutes to create. They would practice creating it each day in class. By the time the test came they were pros and they'd get it all on the scratch paper before the test anxiety would kick in!

I can't say for sure if it worked, but I know it certainly couldn't have hurt!!
