I agree with the others, unless the school approached you to do an interview that they set up I wouldn't venture out and do one on my own. Sometimes even the most innocent comments can be written in such a way that you'd
wish you could find another place to live after the article is published.

Jr. High is hard enough for full-time classroom teachers, I think those who are willing to sub for those grades deserve gold stars and battle pay. I guess if you sub enough in one school you'll eventually get to know the kids better and that can help with control. But perhaps simply go in prepared to teach about

things you know a lot about. I've seen kids of all ages sit so attentively when the person in front of them is excited and knowledgeable about something. So when I used to sub, I would bring along some of my interests and use them if the plans were not detailed enough or if the class was hard to handle. I used to show dogs and had a lot of slides at one time, so I carried them around and the kids (even older ones) loved to hear about this and had tons of questions, wanted to talk about their dogs, etc., And I would hope most teachers would be fine if you taught something else to try to keep the class under control. So if you are going to continue with subbing in these jr high grades - perhaps try to plan a few different lessons - one in writing, one in science, one in math that are active, different, etc., I know as a teacher I don't always know who my sub will be and so I may not leave difficult lessons and the kids sometimes realize this. If you come with your own (to use only if everything seems to be falling apart) chances are your efforts would be appreciated. And at least your day would hopefully be less stressful.
