Teaching can be great!
By Cathy-Dee

Clip to ScrapBook
Any job can have a good side and a bad one. I worked in the tourist industry for 10 years before going into teaching and there were many times during those 10 years I really did not like my job. But there were times it
was great. A lot depends on your attitude and willingness to put in effort.

Teaching can be one of the most rewarding careers you can choose. Some of my best friends now are teachers I work with. The students I have taught who are now in Grade 6 or 7 are exciting to watch. There are of course grades that are typically more difficult than others - generally speaking grades 6 to 8 are

the hardest because the students are going through many changes emotionally and physically and you have to be strong-willed to keep them focused and yes even in-line.

The younger grades that you are thinking about are delightful to teach. You may have years that are more difficult, parents who frustrate you, students who are more disruptive, but then there are those parents who thank you because of the time you have spent with their child. Or the child who finally gets the concept you've been teaching all year. Overall students in grade K to 3 want to please their teachers. They love learning and get so excited when they do catch onto new things.

If we truly hated our jobs we would leave teaching and do something else. And teaching is not for everyone. But for those who choose teaching, I believe most absolutely love it! Boards such as this one serve a great purpose in that we feel we can come here as professionals and vent to others who understand that some days are just simply frustrating. This way we get feedback, support and sometimes just releasing the tension makes a huge difference. Then we don't take our frustrations home or back to the classroom.

So.... I think you should go for it.... you sound like someone who would make an excellent teacher and who would enjoy working with the children and helping them to learn new things and expand their worlds.
