I did consider stepping in while the chaos was going on, and I would have if I had determined that ST was getting upset by it. The problem was she was instigating much of it. She acted as if she thought the rowdiness was their way of showing how much they were enjoying the lesson. I had taught ST our "time to get quiet" signals... bells, hand clap signals. She just would not use them.
When we came back from lunch I had a talk with the students with the student teacher in the room. I told them their was a difference between having fun and being rude. I also reminded them that they should | | go to her with problems that arise during the lesson if she is teaching. Just like they should come to me with problems that arise when I am teaching. When problems were popping up between students during all of this loud rowdiness they were coming to me to sort throug allthe squabbles, kicking, and bad language. She needs to know how to solve those problems. She'll get tired of dealing with it constantly and then maybe she'll apply some management techniques.
I have e-mailed her and told her that we will talk more about my observations on Monday.
Lessons I have learned so far........ Never assume AND be very specific in our discussions.
