What they mean when they say it
By Funnygirl

Clip to ScrapBook
When students say "That is so gay" they may not know that gay is another word for homosexual (as some of you have either said or implied). But it IS another word for it, and they need to know that it is. That way they'll
know that they are putting down an entire group of people by equating gay with something "stupid, bad, lame, etc." You may think those people need to be "saved" (ha!), but it is not OK to insult people based on their differences.

Isn't it our job to teach tolerance and respect for others? If we are silent on this or if we just say, "That is inappropriate," I wonder if we are really
teaching tolerance. Parents may not like it, and our jobs might be in jeopardy for standing up for what is right, but our consciences will be clear.
Yes, I know many of you will disagree. We are all entitled to our opinions.
