I know I'll get a ton of backlash for this one but...
NO!!!!! I don't teach my students with examples that include gay couples. NO!!! I don't teach them that gay people are an oppressed group. And you know what? I'd| quit before I did that. I do not believe that being gay is something you're born with and I do not believe that it is just hunky dory and we should all just accept it and move on. As a parent, I would be FURIOUS if my children came home and told me that their teacher gave a lesson on gay people being an oppressed group. I just do not see the place for that in a classroom. And no, | | before you say it, I'm not one of those people that hates gay people. I truly believe that they are deceived and that they need more prayer than almost any other group I know. That doesn't mean that I hate them, that only means that I think they are living in bondage and need help. Again, there is no way that I would ever bring that subject up in my classroom and if my children's teacher ever brought it up in school I would HIT THE ROOF!!! To me, it's no different from teaching about religion. I mean there are way too many people with differing opinions on that issue, and I firmly believe it needs to remain at home. There, I said it, flame away!!!!!
