Getting Control
By Jerry

Clip to ScrapBook
I have found that giving the students some time at the end of class for a "break" lets them know that you can be reasonable. Sometimes I even let them sit by their friends. This is a "perk" that can be withdrawn if the don't deserve it, and they usually remember that. Often I will take that time to chat with one or two students about whatever; the school sports team, the days assignment, etc. You then have credibility to ask THEM to "be reasonable".
