I think the DRA II is very good at showing growth over time and also a tool to inform the teacher's instruction. It is a valid tool and gives a very accurate understanding of your readers. I would recommend it to schools.

It does take a while to do and the time it takes away from the class is the piece that has it's flaws. We actually get subs for our classrooms so we can set up a little table in the hall and just go for it! The information is very helpful!
