middle school woes By carolyn

I worked in a middle school both as a sub, then as a full-time teacher. I always thought that teachers who met with the students every day got more respectful, better behavior from kids. Of course, I was "tried" both times.| You have to be super witch. Some things that worked for me: 1) Get the kids out of the classroom at the first sign of any misbehavior. Have a prearranged teacher's classroom where these students who are causing the most problems for you can go to. There are some really nice teachers out there who will accommodate you and understand your need. Be sure to write a pass to the | | teacher explaining that this is what you are doing, so that the student isn't wandering all over the building. You will be surprised with a few gone what the difference is. 2) Pick up a referral form at the first sign of trouble and, to let them know you mean business, fill it out. The others will probably calm down. 3) Press the call button to the office and tell them that an administrator needs to come to the classroom. This is if nothing else seems to work. You will eventually get out of middle school once the sub caller realizes how faithfully you respond to calls. After awhile, simply put your foot down and say, "No more middle school!"
