THIS IN RESPONSE TO GB: Just a note, research has shown that when asked to estimate the number of undocumented students enrolled in their class, most teachers over estimate by a considerable ammount. Are you sure that the| brown skinned people that you speak of are indeed "illegal" and are you proposing that it is un-american to speak another language? There is a great deal of research that supports native language instruction. The alternative to native language instruction would be to force children to learn English at the expense all other subjects. Our students are taught in both as part of a dual | | language program, at this point about 1/3 of the class is reading above grade level in both English and Spanish. We are red-blooded Americans, we just happen to think that two languages are better than one, three would be even better. Look into your statements. If you examine the issue, our nation is dependant on the labor that these "illegals" provide. Another point to consider is that they do have taxes taken from their checks. They are certain not to ever be eliglble for social security benefits. American patriotism doesn't have to equal zenophobia.
