Getting the areas you want
By Joyce

Clip to ScrapBook
I'm having the same sort of experience. I have a BS in Chemical Engineering (not a family-friendly career) and am getting ready to go back to school to get my teaching license. I started subbing in the meantime to see if
I would like it, expecting to do HS Math and Science. I have done elementary gym, middle school language arts, special ed, music, band, and even HS Spanish, along with lots of elementary and middle school classes. To my surprise, most haven't been too bad. (I do NOT care for middle school music classes though - the kids are just wild.) I'm even considering changing over to the middle
grades because I like the kids at that age - even though most people tell me they are the worst. I have yet to do HS Math or Science - don't know if those teachers never take a break or if those are the "plum" jobs and the more experienced subs are getting them. I haven't had any problems with getting enough work though. I'm working for 3 different school districts and have frequently gotten calls from all 3 for the same day. I kind of like being able to work as much or as little as I want, and haven't really experienced any problems if I turn down jobs because I have something else.
