Need attention but...
By tbell0407

Clip to ScrapBook
I also teach third. This kid may be starving for attention but it also sounds like he needs to be checked real hard about the limits in your room. It does sound like he's trying to manipulate you. I always give my kids
a choice. I tell them "you never ever have to work during work time if that is your choice. But, you will get your work done during a time you would rather do something else, like recess or P.E. or art) Are the parents supportive? I had to check a kid really hard (with principal support) After that, I made the kid the equipment manager in my class after he started getting his work
done and being appropriate in school. His behavior has changed and for whatever reason, I'm the adult in the building that has success with him. There are lot's of kids that need to know the limits. It sounds like he's done enough testing.
