My class exactly

Sorry- I am in the same boat as you. So if nothing else, don"t feel like this is just your class. This is my class exactly. Except if they do not get help soon enough they yell out my name. They distract each other. I have
discussed so many times and modeled appropriate listening skills. The students came up with their own poster of what good listeners do- of course only about 5 do this!
I have rewarded good behavior with praise, posted star work, awarded student of the week, bribed with a class store- none of it works. I have then punished by taking away free time, games, or recess at times. It still

has not changed.
I have to do a Math and Science hands on activity every week- and then we have math lab and science lab one day a week. So the students get two activity days in both subjects every week. When we have to read, locate information, write notes or discuss facts many begin to fidget, play with pencils, paper, THEIR OWN FINGERS. Anything they can find and 4 boys in each class constantly loose their chairs because they cannot sit them down on the floor.
If anyone can help motivate these fourth graders to want to learn- I could seriously need the help. I have worked so hard to come up with alternatives that I am drained.
