book buying
By roo

Clip to ScrapBook
I am addicted to buying books, and I remember what it's like to want to start building your library before you have a classroom. I think that's wonderful. I just wanted to offer you a word of caution from someone who did
the same...You can't be sure what grade level(s) you will teach, and this will definitely influence the range of books you purchase. Maybe your license is limited to a narrow age range, and this will help, but for me, mine was gr. 1-8, and I very much wanted to teach 1st or 2nd. Therefore, I bought a ton of picture story books. I ended up in 4th grade, which I love and now know was a
better fit for me, but I had a lot of books that were less useful than I thought they'd be. Just thought I'd throw that in. Happy shopping!
Also, you might want to see if you can get an account through Scholastic Book Clubs. It's a lot easier to accumulate books when you can buy paperbacks for 95cents to $3.95 vs. paying full price in bookstores.
