Maybe it's because I teach in a lower SES, I don't know, but I never have any complaints about books--and I read ANYTHING I want to with my sixth graders. ANYTHING. We read such interesting stuff and have some great discussions. Maybe less-educated parents just don't get involved to the same extent as wealthier, better-educated parents. Whatever the reason, I consider myself lucky.
