Storytown this year By teach8060

We also started the 2008 edition this year...I teach 4th grade - 24 students. i do not get to each group every day, but my Basic Skills/Inclusion teacher does take my Below Level Group and the Strategic Intervention Group| every time we do small groups. I typically do a 6 or even 7 day rotation, with 4 days of small groups. I mentioned in a previous thread that many of my kids do not care for the Leveled Readers..."Booorrriiinnngggg..." The Anthology pieces are better (They are authentic - not made up stories where they are trying to squeeze in the Robust Vocabulary and the comprehension strategy!) We | | also enjoy Readers' Theater. I have noticed, too, that a lot of my students are using the vocabulary in their writing and speaking!
Yes, there is a lot to cover, but you can decide what you do and do not want to use. I basically make sure I cover everything that is assessed and hope to find time to add in the "fluff". I supplement where necessary. I, too, struggle with getting the Writing in but that is a timing thing. We use Collins writing and it really does fit in with Storytown - there just never seems to be time!!! It all comes together - good luck!
