Not a state mandate
By rebeccav

Clip to ScrapBook
Class sized reduction is not coming to an end on the side of the state. Some districts are toying with the idea due to the budget crisis. Our district has to find $14 million, a neighboring district has to find $4 million
and yet another is looking at an $80 million gap. So it depends on how much a district has to cut and where it can be cut from. A "rumor" I heard was that some superintendents were appealing to the state to play with 20-1 to get through this crisis. For example, allowing 24-1 and the state would still kick in their part of the funds. Our district let go of temps at the semester and
some middle/high school classes were increased. I don't know how they can shoulder the burden. My hubby teaches 10th grade english and already has 40 kids in each section! It's a down right shame what's happening. The sixth largest economy and 46th in education...:(
