helplessness
By mgs138

Clip to ScrapBook
along with definatley an attention deficit, and possibly a learning disability, he probably has low self esteem due to failures at school. this is what may be contributing to the helplessness ("I can't.." without an effort)

He needs to be given shorten assignments that are on his level.
He needs to be rewarded with praise after success.
He needs to be asked to list his successes verbally to increase his self esteem.
He needs to hear positives from teachers, staff, parents, and peers (truthful)
Then the work can slowly become increasingly harder.
He probably needs some social skills training as well.

It is verysad that such a young child has given up. Hopefully you can get him some support.
