Reading First (really long)

You may like it if:
1. all you want to do is teach reading straight from the basal without any supplements. Unless you're a rebel like me (I do RW)
2. you have to individually test each student's (I have 24) fluency
every two weeks (including second graders who already read 98 wpm; goal-90)
3. you are forced to do literacy workstations only. They balk at math/science/social studies stations, but like I said, I'm a rebel. I have them anyway
4. they tell you what students need to be in a small group (forget teacher judgement
5. lessons plans for each small group, individual child, and

whole group and filed in a fold for each child.
6. literacy coach breathing down your back for the paperwork
7. students who are less prepared now than when the program started
8. you can squeeze in an extra 30 minutes of small group outside of your 90 minute reading block. It was suggested to us that you do this intervention during independent work time in Math. Science, or Social Studies. Hello? When are they going to finish their work in that subject area? When am I going to do small group for math?

However, from what I gathered, each state is different so you might want to check your state's guidelines. I am so glad that next school year is the last one because it is driving me crazy. All the school board sees is money, but they don't look at the insane amount of work that goes into the program that actually eats up valuable instructional time.
