Study Island
By Trinia2

Clip to ScrapBook
We curently have three test prep software programs. Last year we had two, one of which was Study Island. We were told that admin would be checking our usage of it and it was something we were supposed to make a lot of use
of. Anyway, I was not really impressed so don't use it much this year (new admin), but I heard it was supposed to make the test scores go up. The scores did go up, but not sure whether that was part of it. Certainly, we were killing ourselves. What I didn't like about it was exactly what was mentioned. If you go in order, the kids hadn't been taught all the skills at that time and would
get frustrated. It claims to have a tutorial, but it is weak. I think with any of these programs you need to "assign" the lessons for the children so that they become a way to review. This year we have access to the ELA Study Island (last year was math only); I will be trying that out with my kids next week. One thing I did with my kids to motivate them was on Mondays I posted the person with the most blue ribbons. This year I have not used it much, but one of my stars has completed all of the 4th grade material; now I have to check how I get her into another level.
