I heart mine!
By Ashleybrooke

Clip to ScrapBook
I use lots of timers through the day. I have a few 1, 3, and 5 minute hourglass timers for wrap ups or timed-pair-share type of activities. I also set a timer for a 3-5 minute wrap-up/clean-up sessions This is especially helpful since I teach at a PYP school and most of our day is hands-on investigation activities.

When I first started teaching it was tough for me to keep mini lessons mini, so I would use the vibrate function on my phone to hold me to 10 minutes. Occasionally I will use a timer to do gather-ups (mini-lessons) mid-inquiry session to meet common class needs.

My students have become excellent managers of their own time in part due to the timers. (I've gotten better at the mini lessons too!)
