I don't know what the level of parent involvement is at your school but I have received many generous donations of used books from parents. I just send home a short note about the need for a variety of books in our classroom (levels, genres, etc.). I ask them to check their bookshelves at home for books that their children have loved already and are willing to pass on. I make it clear that it will be an outright donation and the books won't be returned.
