I too teach in the garden state. I would never as a senior teacher, oh my gosh I am a senior teacher, tell someone not to take off if they were sick. Come on, don't abuse it but if you are sick you need the day to feel better and be able to come and do your job they way it is suppose to be done. I am wondering if you could tell your county at least, I could understand that some people could feel the pressure in the more "affulent" areas, but really dont make a habit of it, I think a day here and a day there are totally warranted.
Take the day and don't worry about it.
